Pretty in a pinch

Slide 1 / 1

Want to wear makeup but lack the time or skills to create a complicated, runway-ready face? Don't despair. Looking pretty and polished doesn't have to be difficult or time-consuming. The key is to play up your strongest, most unique asset.

Find your top beauty asset from the list below. Focus on it consistently and follow these fast makeup tips to ensure you always look pretty—even in a pinch.

Time-saving makeup tips

  • Beautiful skin should be shown off, not hidden under a lot of foundation. A light application of bronzer or blush could be enough to give your skin some extra pop. For dry skin, try cream blush followed by a light application of translucent powder. For oily skin, dust on translucent powder followed by a powder blush.
  • Luscious lips can be enhanced in subtle or dramatic ways, depending on your mood. Go for neutral colors and sheer textures, like gloss, for a more natural look. If you're feeling bolder, choose more vivid colors with higher pigment levels and a matte finish. And remember to smile—a lot!
  • Strong cheekbones are a less common asset, and well worth playing up. Apply blush to the apples of your cheeks (smile to find them), and blend the color up toward your temples. For a more sculpted look, use a cheek palette that includes color, highlighter and contour. For best results, apply highlighter on the highest part of your cheekbones, color on the apples of your cheeks, and contour under your cheekbones.
  • Lovely lashes can be played up with mascara—that's no secret. Maximize your come-hither power even more by turning your eyebrows into the perfect frame for your eyes. Tweeze stray hairs, then use a brow pencil or eyebrow palette to lightly fill in brows, following your natural arch.
  • Eye-catching eyes get attention either because of their color or their shape. Use an eyelash curler and apply mascara to make your eyes look bigger. And no matter what your eye color, navy shadow is your friend—it's a universally flattering shade that makes your eyes pop. If you have beautifully shaped eyes, accentuate them with pencil or liquid eyeliner followed by mascara.

Pro tips

  • Start smooth by using a gentle facial scrub once a week—you'll create the perfect canvas for any makeup you apply to your skin.
  • Set up success by using good makeup brushes. The ones that are sold with makeup are great on the go, but pro tools will deliver the most even application.
  • Stay balanced when you wear makeup by creating one focal point on your face. Pair strong eyes with a neutral lip color, and a bold lip with softer eyes.
  • Set boundaries for blush and bronzer. Find the part of your face that lines up under your pupil. Blend color on your cheeks so it stops about an inch before that spot.
